One of the influences for Ledian's design is that from a old GameFreak game named Pulseman.
Ahh, Ledian.
The pokemon they gave Iron fist to in gen 5.
With 35 attack and no good punching moves.
The pokemon with 390 BST and 110 of it in Special Defense.
The pokemon with the worst defensive typing possible.
The pokemon you could give +50 to each stat in and it still wouldn't be good.
God I love this little failure.
Looking at Ledian i wants expecting their highest stat to be Special Defense of all things.

ledyba is actually my second favorite pokemon overall! happy to see it with a b rating ^^
Ledian getting a 3rd evo as bug/fighting would had been super cool.
Ledyba gets an S from me because it looks like a freaking Muppet and I’m biased.
putting these designs in the same conventions that developed in later gens like calling this one the caterpie and sentret the zigzagoon feels… weird. gen 2 was not a typical generation by any margin. the pokemon designs have a grab-bag feel because they’re just design concepts that didn’t make it into gen 1. ledyba isn’t a caterpie, it’s a ledyba, you get me?
to me, ledian's wing openings kinda resemble usagi ringo, a way of cutting apples to look like bunnies that is very popular with children in japan. not sure how intentional it is but it is a major design inspiration for victini later on, so it might be purposeful here as well

I really feel Ledyba and Ledian would benefit from a next-gen evolution in much the same way some Pokémon evolved in Sinnoh and Paldea
i think you missed that ledian is now sporting a ✊ rather than stylized insect legs

I absolutely love Ladybugs and the first time I saw Ledyba and Ledian, I absolutely fell in love. But the poor thing was so weak that I had to replace her eventually. The Bug types can be cute, but they really need to be made stronger so that we can actually use them.

Legit just swap this thing’s attack and Sp.Def and it would be usable. Maybe not competitive, but usable.
Ledian is so underwhelming for such a nice design. Stat-wise it needs an evolution but it's hard to imagine a good design that doesn't go too far.
Alternatively I would absolutely accept a Palafin-style form change
Believe it or not this line is beastly. At least on my mono nuzlocke. Decent special , actually solid special def, access to dig, thunder/ ice punch and both reflect and light screen. Only thing that hurt it is rocks
They need to give it a new evolution. That’s competitive, or something to make it more viable than just a speedster.
I always get excited to hear tokusatsu references recognised! If you squint, Ledyba's head looks very similar to the helmet of Kamen Rider Ichigou/Nigou

I love ledian and I don't care if it's not very strong, I use it every time I play soul silver.
Everyone else can keep their Scizors and Golisopods. Just let me hug my little star bug
